Life - within or without?

How often do we think about the essence of life? I guess almost never - for various reasons. First and foremost – when we are young we take life for granted. With age we begin to treat it more like a precious gift, which is short, hence we should focus and cherish every minute of it. The second reason can be that everything in our surrounding environment is filled with life, we are permanently immersed in it, so – again - there is nothing unusual to think about.

What bothers me when I think about it is that we all – quite often, me included – look at life as something external. Someone gave us “this” life. So we live it. I guess this strange outlook on life as an effect of external forces giving it to us, makes us use the same thought pattern with everything we do. When something inconvenient happens – we look for an outside source of our predicaments and someone else to blame. When a relationship goes wrong – there is always a partner, family etc. to blame. Whatever it is the source – it is outside.

One can say that today we know it is not true. That we accept the concept of the truth lying inside of us, due to our spiritual connection to the universe. Also, but not without inner struggle, we conceptually can accept, that we are all connected: with another humans and all life forms on the planet as well as in the cosmos.

The hardest idea to grasp is the concept of life. I wonder why it is so hard for us to comprehend that life takes place inside of us, not outside. That outside is only a projection of our dreams, goals and misconstructions (those are unfortunate events). That “the spark”, as some say, or the essence of true life is only and exclusively inside of our being. Everything what matters begins there, everything is created there, and everyone is born first in the essence of another human, then to the outside world. Only from the inside we can produce, give birth or develop something, what will finally manifest outside.

What matters in order to keep this attitude is focus and awareness. Focus is about what is going on within us now and at every moment of our life during this “eternal now”. It is about the ability to hear ourselves, not the external voices speaking through us, but us! External voices (i.e. during channeling) are for random use to bring information, which in turn can enhance our understanding of any given situation, but they are not to run our life. We need constant awareness permanently reminding us that the most important aspect of life is us! How do I want to approach “that”? What are my dreams? Why should I partake in the society and how can I enlarge it?

Focus on me is not selfish. If properly governed and administered it becomes an endless source of power, motivation, the best leader and guide.

I said that “if properly governed”, which means not from an Ego point of view, but from this highly spiritual true essence of us. How to distinguish between those two? My personal compass here is that if I “want” something and am stuck to have it regardless of feedback, it is my ego. If I am able to monitor the outcome and analyze circumstances taking others and (hopefully) everything under consideration, that’s true me.

For the last 3 months we were submerged in the darkest part of the year (at least in the area where I live), which for me is the time to “cave in” and dig inside of my essence. To tell the truth - it is not a picnic all the way, but something great comes of it every year. Something creative. Something what allows me to truly connect with me.

How do you deal with it?
