Hypnosis

When I travel and meet so many people, not just from my own spiritual circles. I often have an impression that they live in some kind of hypnotic state in which not much matters except for everyday life, their own predicaments and pleasures.

It often appears as if we are living in some kind of unconscious hypnotic state from which we cannot break free since it became a common way of life. It is sad especially when we understand that – probably – most of it has been imposed on us without our agreement.

For my own curiosity, I began to ask people of different walks of life if they know what the word hypnosis means. Mostly I get a reply that they do not think about it. When I have asked the same question to hypnosis practitioners, they reply – in most cases – that it is a way to access the subconscious level to release blockages.

As much as this is true, it is only a part of it. It applies more to the application of hypnosis then to the true meaning of the word and procedure. How can we successfully do or undo something if we do not understand the meaning of it?

Let’s then take a closer look at the etymology of this word. The word “Hypnosis” known to be derived from a Greek word “Hypnos”, which means, “to put in sleep”. That is the definition, which you can find in most major English dictionaries. But there is also another etymology of if, which says that the word has been derived from two Greek words: “Hypo” and “Gnosis”.

Hypo” means “under” or “below” or in some cases “sub-”– the best example of it from our everyday life would be “Hypothermia”, which simply means abnormally decreased body temperature, typically to dangerously low level.

The other part is “Gnosis”, which means “knowledge”. It has become popular over last few centuries, a Greek noun, which you can find across all major religion systems of today’s world. This knowledge though is not the intellectual knowledge, which one can acquire through school, but rather knowledge based on personal experience such as enlightenment or some kind of insight and is connected with spiritual life of a certain individual.

When we will put those two meanings together, we will see the other face of “Hypnosis”, which is “Hidden Knowledge”. Hidden not in a sense of “occult knowledge”, but hidden by you.. from you. We talk about the level of knowledge, which is seeded so deep in us that we do not even try to dwell into it.

We all know that information can not only be brought up through hypnosis, but also implanted in us through a hypnotic state. I wonder how many people, who know about subliminal messages in movies and other TV programs understand the extent of its application in today’s public life.

Our new generation relies on technology, which is mostly based on watching and reading from devises, which in turn are very easy to stimulate externally. Today’s young people do not appreciate paper or other material sources of knowledge, hence become extremely easy subjects to group hypnosis. I know it sounds a bit too spooky and strange, but ponder upon it and observe your surroundings – you may agree… You may see it. And then – maybe some of us will wake up and do something about it. Just for us – it is a perfect starting point.
