Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is celebrated in Canada this up coming Sunday, May 8-th. It makes all of us think about our Mothers.

If we would like to drift for a moment away from nowadays perception of Mother’s Day as a day to celebrate motherhood, we will find many interesting traditions around that topic.

First of all - nobody really knows when this celebration of feminine energy began. Universe, as a unity of male and female aspect of everything, honors both of them equally. With celebration of a Sun as an expression of masculine energy, there comes also a proper respect for the planet Sun in our solar system. We even (beginning with Latin dies solis “the day of the Sun”) celebrated this type of energy for millennia in all religious traditions and named the last day of the week “Sun-day”.

We need to remember though that Feminine energy, as we said equal to masculine, has been respected all over the planet from very the beginning of human history as well. There were times when a woman organized a country and called themselves Amazons. They were brave warriors known for seemingly not having one breast. In my old country, Poland, woman, who went through breast removal surgery due to cancer, have a supporting organization called “Amazons”.

From there we may go through our history and see temples of Goddesses in Malta – Goddess with spiral, pentagram etc. It is because feminine energy expressing itself through woman was ever present and always life-protected. That is the main truth about these vibrations: peacefulness, protection, solitude and gentleness. The qualities more and more needed in the world today. A true characteristic of a Mother.

Regardless of the etymology of that word, we celebrate Mother’s Day today as an occasion to show our gratitude to our Moms. They are the ones, who carry the tradition of “fire keepers” and home and family protectors. Today’s Mothers do not have to fight the historical way, but they struggle with many predicaments: drugs, drunk drivers, decreasing amount of time to care for children etc. But, on the other hand, if we are in need, when we are sick or have a broken heart – she is always there. Always available. Always understanding without words. She just is. Even though many of us have lost our Mothers, one single thought of her can bring a smile to our faces, warm up our heart and heal emotional wounds. So for those of you who are still lucky enough to have your Mom, to celebrate Mother’s Day with, make it special!

That what Mother’s Love is to me. I hope it means that much or even more to you!

Happy Mother’s Day!
