The symbol of Caduceus is the most widespread esoteric icon of medicine and healing.
Caduceus contains two snakes intertwined around the staff signifying the double helix (DNA strand) crossing at each of the five chakras.
The staff in the centre is traditionally perceived as our spine to which all chakras are attached like flowers on a stem. Caduceus also symbolizes the divine energy traveling through our body.
The wings on the top of Caduceus remind us of Hermes and Iris, travelers and messengers of Mount Olympia and their ability to go from Earth to heaven and even to the underworld. It represents the mystical world within each of us. The disc between two wings represent God Ra, the God of Sun and a male energy. The snake by itself, however, represents healing and rejuvenation due to its ability to shed its skin and create a new one.
Since the symbol was adopted by Asclepius and Hippocrates, to mention just two, Caduceus became a commonly used symbol for medicine and medical professions.
