Easter

Easter Time. I was recently wondering if it is politically correct to write about Easter Holiday when the text will reach people of different faith, cultures, traditions etc. And then I have realized how much we are influenced by the fear of breaking the rules!

Who sets those rules and why we should abide them blindly? Even when our intentions are pure and we just want to share out thoughts, good wishes and hopes for all regardless of faith. How much our un-conscious (not yet subconscious, thank God!) mind is limited by common way of thinking and perceiving our reality.

Even if we all agree (that is my point of view, when I thing MY thoughts) that any type of Holiday, regardless of custom they belong to (or originated from) is the time to celebrate, many times we still censor our thought process, so we will act according to social expectations.

Let me share with you how my holiday goes, since it is celebrated this way only in small part of Europe. It is the only ceremony, which withstand from pagan time and become accepted by Christian Church. It is an offering to Gods and Mother Nature at the beginning of new season of vegetables and grain growing.

We start on Saturday with the ceremony of blessing food. It is done by priest in the church, but in separate hall, since many people come with their goods during the day, so regular function of the church cannot be interfered by it. In baskets traditionally you would have coloured eggs, small piece of cold cuts, specially prepared small bread, and salt and pepper in very small containers. Of course one can chose to add a small Easter bunny and/or small lamb (all made of sugar) and some special green grass, just to make basket look beautiful. The food in the basket represent all groups of food we eat and would like to offer.

All people display their baskets on special long tables and priest, after short address to all about the spirit of Easter, walks around with Holy Water to bless food in baskets and people. After words some people go to the church to pray, some go home.

When your food is blessed you may start Easter Holiday. Fast is finished, you may eat meat and enjoy quite time (you do not work after food is blessed, house must be in order all you suppose to do should be done before).

The most important part of Easter Sunday is breakfast, when most of people really break fasting, since traditionally we avoid eating meat even after blessing the food on Saturday. Sunday breakfast is large, with cold cuts, eggs etc. It normally starts late, since all family should be around the table. Before we will start eating we share blessing and eat small pieces of eggs.
One of the blessed eggs is cut into small pieces (as many as people) and the oldest member of the family goes around, giving a piece of eggs to everyone and wishing them the best. Then the rest of the family share good wishes between each other. And then we eat!

It is my Easter Holiday. Even if it is different then yours, it is as wonderful and holy as yours. And as wonderful and holy as any other of your Holidays.

So - Happy Holiday regardless of the form, place and purpose of it.
Sun, Light and the energy of action is with us for the next half a year. Let’s take advantage of it!
Stay Happy and Blessed!
