Masters

From the beginning of time people have been looking for masters, role models or – in general - outstanding figures to follow their path to self-development, success or spiritual enlightenment. In our nature we are rather followers then entrepreneurs, probably because it is easier. Only a small percentage of us do not give into either the most popular or the newest and challenging concepts and ideas. First take the most familiar path; the latter are rather explorers and voyagers liking to be some type of frontiers ironing the new way of perceiving life and the Universe.)

The biggest amount of people, though, worships their Gods and Goddesses, depending on if they belong to mono- or polytheistic believe system. Those systems are so old, that the truth about the origin of their deities is created rather through legends and ‘ice-coated’ stories then fact-based, correct history. As my friend says History is more His-Story, then the real thing.

Last night I was watching the movie called “Cloud Atlas”, which is an amazing story (in my opinion), crushed by critics (for me those are the ‘must watch’ movies), loved by many viewers. Among multiple plots, there is one, which inspired me to write this piece today. It is about Nonni, the worshiped deity-like persona, whose small book is kind of a Bible. The Wise Women consults this ‘book’ when in doubt or when her people need ‘help from above’. At the same time, in another plot, we can see the story of a waitress (I try not to give up too many details, so you will enjoy the many twists of the story, if you decide to watch it), who - against her own will - is raised to the status of a motivator and a leader of a rebellious organization. Her words are those written in the ‘bible’. Her name is the title of that ‘holy book’.

It brought me to thinking about how much do we really and truly know about those we – in a sense – worship. Do we know or even attempt to know their true story. In the movie when one of the main characters learns the truth about Nonni, rejects it, it seems to be far beyond his comprehension. The source of wisdom is a waitress?! She’s a Goddess! It takes time to understand and accept the fact that just a common person can be elevated so high. It is also scary, since if that was a common person, just like me (in fact, she was a lot less then you and me), then maybe, just maybe, what I say or do may be a reference point for others at some time. Maybe what I do and say may become a legacy treasured by generations to come… Can we stand that much of a responsibility? Can we be so responsible now, in our seemingly unimportant life? Without looking forward to become a messiah, knowing that what we do and say matters to others. Since it truly does. One thought, one world, one intention changes everything for everyone. Can we truly comprehend it? I don’t think so. In my case I can talk and write about it and make the most effort to get it, but do I? I guess time will show. We all leave some kind of legacy behind. Some of them will become important for one person or many, some will be forgotten. But all of it exists somehow somewhere in the Universe for future generations to turn to… It may be you!
