Conflict & Cooperation

In our times filled with fear of nuclear weapons and possible endanger of mass destruction, people tend to cooperate to solve conflicts. Well – on global scale, of course. What about personal conflicts? Family conflicts? Community conflicts?

After going through many conflicts, on all levels of their existence, I came to the conclusion that there is no conflict, which wouldn’t lead, sooner or later, to cooperation. It seems to be the only reasonable consequence of conflict. Every conflicts resolution brings people to cooperation.

Let’s look at WWI. After the war people were so happy that it is over, that they began to cooperate to make sure that it will never happen again. So they created League of Nations, initiated by the President of USA, Woodrow Wilson and ratified in 1919. The majority of countries around the world abided it for quite a while. But well, we are only human, so with time we have forgotten all the tragedy of war. People needed more jobs, more money, higher social status, which brought an unhealthy competition, hatred, conflicts and animosity.Cooperation was not working any more. Europe was just one step from another war. And it happened.

After WWII we have created United Nations, so the war will not happened again. But today, after nearly 70 years, we are facing so many conflicts around the world. Unfortunately I do not think we are so much wiser. I think we are much more afraid of nuclear war, so countries and governments try to cooperate to prevent mass destruction. I hope it will work. But, on the other hand, people have this amazing ability to forget the pain and fear – until next time!

I do hope that conflicts will not bring more wars and that we will learn from the past to cooperate before conflict will escalate. I do believe that with that entire spiritual awakening we will be able (on a mass scale) project cooperation, compassion and understanding instead of conflicts and confrontations.

I hope…
